ALBUQUERQUE RADON — PRE-TEST CLOSED-HOUSE CHECKLIST
Valid short-term radon tests require closed-house conditions.

BEGINNING 12 HOURS BEFORE THE TEST
[ ] Close all windows on every level
[ ] Close exterior doors except for normal entry and exit
[ ] Do not run window fans, whole-house fans, or evaporative (swamp) coolers
[ ] Keep fireplace dampers closed
[ ] Do not operate window air conditioners on the fresh-air setting

DURING THE 48-HOUR TEST
[ ] Keep closed-house conditions the entire time
[ ] Normal use of central heating and refrigerated air is fine
[ ] Bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans: brief normal use only
[ ] Do not move, cover, or unplug the test device
[ ] Do not test during high winds or severe storms if avoidable

DEVICE PLACEMENT
[ ] Lowest level currently lived in
[ ] 20 inches to 6 feet above the floor
[ ] At least 3 feet from exterior walls, windows, and doors
[ ] At least 4 inches from other objects
[ ] Away from drafts, heat, humidity, and direct sunlight
[ ] Not in a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, or closet

AFTER THE TEST
[ ] Record start and stop date and time
[ ] Return the device promptly if lab analysis is required
[ ] Retest or move to a long-term test if the result is 4.0 pCi/L or higher
