New Mexico sits on geology that generates radon continuously — uranium-bearing sedimentary and volcanic formations, the basin fill of the Rio Grande rift, and fractured bedrock along the Sandia and Manzano uplifts. Dry, permeable soils then let that gas travel efficiently toward foundations instead of decaying underground.

No county map predicts a specific house. Two homes on the same street can differ by a factor of five depending on foundation detail, sub-slab material, and how the home is operated. The only useful data point is a measurement taken in your home under closed-house conditions.

Albuquerque Radon is based in Albuquerque and works primarily across the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho metro, including Bernalillo and Sandoval counties. We regularly travel to surrounding communities, and coverage continues to expand.

Testing conditions specific to New Mexico

  • Evaporative (swamp) coolers must be off during a test — they can push a reading far below the home's true annual average.
  • Large day-night temperature swings strengthen the stack effect, so winter results tend to run higher.
  • Caliche and compacted subgrade under slabs often limit sub-slab communication, which changes system design.
  • Monsoon-season soil moisture can shift short-term readings in either direction.
